Il Cammino di Dante: a journey in the heart of the Divine Comedy.

The Way of Dante is a fascinating itinerary that retraces the places where the Supreme Poet had taken refuge during his exile from Florence. The route, created in homage to Dante and his work, winds between Romagna and Tuscany, touching places that inspired the Divine Comedy.

Owing to its mainly mountainous nature and rugged trails that are often difficult of access, the route has been conceived mainly with hikers in mind. Those who intend to undertake the journey in Dante’s footsteps will have to tackle challenging climbs, technical descents and exposed stretches. Although some sections of the Way can be negotiated by bicycle, it is most important to stress that this route is suitable only for expert and well-equipped cyclists. The mountain paths, which are often narrow and technical, require a good level of skill in riding a mountain bike and an appropriate degree of physical fitness. In many sections the bike will have to be pushed or even carried over your shoulder.

Hence you are advised to contact the Cammino di Dante organisers to consider whether or not to undertake the journey by bicycle.
