The project “VRG BIKE, the new cycling route from Northern Europe to Romagna” is the tangible result of the initiative by GAL L’Altra Romagna – PSR 2014-2020 – Measure 19 – Support for Local Development LEADER – Measure 19.3.02 Project Cooperation Actions – COOPERATION PROJECT “CAMMINI” – TRACING THE PILGRIM ROUTES FROM THE APENNINES TO THE PO DELTA – ITINERARIES IN THE RURAL AREAS OF EMILIA-ROMAGNA – Local Action LI-L3, and the collaboration among the six Emilia-Romagna GALs (GAL Antico Frignano and Appennino Reggiano, GAL del Ducato, GAL dell’Appennino Bolognese, GAL Valli Marecchia e Conca, GAL Delta 2000, GAL L’Altra Romagna) and the Via Romea Germanica Italia Association. This new cycling route, in addition to connecting Northern Europe with Italy, represents a unique opportunity to enhance the cultural and landscape heritage of Romagna, stimulating sustainable tourism and local development.
Our website acts as a complete guide for cyclists and provides a description of every itinerary that can be covered by bicycle, suggestions on places of interest, resting places and useful services along the route. Furthermore, cyclists may download GPX tracks and ask for specific information directly from the official websites of the eight pilgrim ways concerned — Cammino di Sant’Antonio, Cammino di Assisi, Cammino di San Vicinio, Alta Via dei Parchi, Viae Misericordiae, Cammino di Dante, Cammino di San Francesco da Rimini a La Verna and Via Romea Germanica — in order to make the best possible arrangements for their journey.
Our main aim is to promote and develop the territory of Romagna, making its natural beauties and culture known by means of cycle tourism. We have worked out and created a cycle route that not only connects the Brenner Pass with Rome, but that has also become an attraction for cyclists from all over the world, thus contributing to tourism and economic growth not only in the Romagna territory but also in the Regions it passes through.
